When looking for an Akita to add to your family, the most important thing to keep in mind is the temperament of your puppy is dependent on the breeder's integrity! You need to see the puppies interact within their litter (pack) and you need to see the parents. The mother should be approachable and your breeder should demonstrate knowledge about Akitas.

If you are open to adopting an adult Akita, contact the Akita Rescue in your area. These people know the breed and have evaluated all of the dogs they have available for adoption. You'll find a list of the reputable rescues at the Akita Club of America website.
